December @ the Library

Free computer instruction is available @ the library. COMPUTER CLASSES for beginning-level computer users are offered Wednesdays at 1pm. Sign-ups available at the library (no sign-ups by phone). BEYOND BASICS, for advanced beginners, will be offered Mondays, Oct. 11-Dec. 20 @ 1pm. This free, one-time class is for those already comfortable with mouse and keyboard, and who would like to find out what more they can do with their computer. Sign-ups available at the library (no sign-ups by phone). The GENEALOGY CLASS meets every Tuesday at 2pm. Genealogy guidance & help using Ancestry.com and HeritageQuest.com are provided. No sign-up is necessary.

Tumbleweed Tales Poetry group will meet Saturday, Dec. 4, @ 10am. All ages welcome, bring original poetry or old favorites to share.

The Library Scrabble Club meets every Monday, 3:00-5:30pm, no sign-up necessary. Boards are provided but you may bring your own if you’d like. Grab a Scrabble dictionary and a friend for lots of spelling fun with other Scrabble-rs.

Shakespeare Roundtable meets to read, discuss, & enjoy Shakespeare every Tuesday, 4-5:30pm. All are invited to attend. For more info, email ezshakespeare@yahoo.com.

For all who like to knit and/or crochet, the KNIT WITS meet every Wednesday, 1pm @ the library. Bring your current project and come join others who love yarn crafting. Free fun for all ages.

Family Craft Day will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 10am. Bring the kids and come make a free, fun “Frosty the Snowman” craft.

TCG (Trading Card Game) DUEL, for kids 11+, is held on Saturdays, 12-4:30. Meet others who love games such as Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, and Yu-Gi-Oh.

Teen Night will be held on Friday, Dec. 10, sponsored by the Library, in cooperation with the Nye Communities Coalition and St. Martin's Episcopal Church. Come at 5:30-8:00pm, for free karaoke, Wii, Food, & Fun. For more information, please call 727-9970 or 537-1115. Open to middle-school through high-school age students.

The Pahrump Anime Club will hold its regular meeting at the library Saturday, Dec. 18, 12-4pm. Absolutely no unaccompanied children under the age of 10.

The Favorite Authors Book Club will meet Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 1:30pm. This month read any Christmas story and come enjoy a lively discussion. New members always welcome, so bring a friend. For more information, call the library.

Fall Reading Program will be held Oct. 20 – Dec. 15. The theme is “Go Bananas for Books!” Sessions will be held: ages 2-3 on Wednesdays, 10:15-10:45am (parent or guardian must accompany child); ages 4-5 on Wednesdays, 11:00-11:45am; and ages 6-12 on Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30pm. This month’s Free Movie Day will not be held due to the holiday. Watch for more info next month.

Be sure to get your Sponsor Decoration and help decorate our Christmas tree. Only $1 each and all proceeds to benefit Kids’ Programming & Kids’ Books. Ask at the Main Circulation Desk.

Christmas Raffle tickets are available, $1 each or 6 for $5. The prize includes a Christmas afghan, tree skirt, and tablecloth handmade by our own Knit Wits, plus other goodies. Drawing will be held on Dec. 20; need not be present to win.

All library events are alcohol-, tobacco-, and drug-free.

Events Calendar for April, 2010

April is Library Lover’s Month and the library is having a Fine Clearance Event to thank all their patrons. Any overdue item returned during April will have all fines removed, no matter the due date. Also, pay any old fine in full during April and you’ll receive 50% off. This is a great time to clear your card.

Bring your ideas and your friends. The Hangout (sponsored by Power Rockers!) is open every Thursday at 3pm. Anyone age 12-17 is welcome to bring snacks, music, homework, etc. and hang out with friends after school.
