Events Calendar for March, 2012


Calling all artists 0-18 years old! Our annual Youth Art Month commences in March and we want to display your art. Bring your work, any medium, to the library beginning through March and we’ll display it for you. Art will be on display through April. Make sure to include name and age on front and telephone number on back. Call Mandy @ the library for more information.

A Book Sale will be held by the Friends of the Pahrump Community Library on March 2 & 3, at the Pahrump Nugget. Friday, 9-5 & Saturday 9-3. All proceeds will benefit the library. For more information, call Donna at 1-800-327-5079.

The GENEALOGY CLASS meets every Tuesday at 2pm. Genealogy guidance & help using Ancestry.com and HeritageQuest.com are provided. No sign-up is necessary. Tumbleweed Tales Poetry group will meet Saturday, March 3, @ 10am. All ages welcome, bring original poetry or old favorites to share.

Winter Reading Program will be held Feb. 8 – Mar. 28. The theme is “Bee-a-Reader!” Sessions will be held: ages 2-3 on Wednesdays, 10:15-10:45am (parent or guardian must accompany child); ages 4-5 on Wednesdays, 11:00-11:45am; and ages 6-12 on Wednesdays, 3:00-4:00pm. For more information, call the Children’s Dept. at the Library.

Shakespeare Roundtable meets to read, discuss, & enjoy Shakespeare every Tuesday, 4-5:30pm. All are invited to attend. For more info, email ezshakespeare@yahoo.com.

Family Craft Day will be held on Saturday, March 10, at 11am. Bring the kids and come make a free, fun craft. This month: a sweet Springtime Visor.

For all who like to knit and/or crochet, the KNIT WITS meet every Wednesday, 1pm @ the library. Bring your current project and come join others who love yarn crafting. Free fun for all ages.

The Pahrump Anime Club will hold its regular meeting at the library Saturday, March 17, 1-4pm. Absolutely no unaccompanied children under the age of 10.

The Favorite Author Book Club will meet on Tuesday, March 20, 1:30-2:30pm. This month read anything from our Young Adult collection then come enjoy a lively discussion. New members are always welcome so bring a friend.

All library events are alcohol-, tobacco-, and drug-free.

Time to turn in your overdue materials! A Fine Amnesty for our patrons will be held February 6-11. NO fines on overdue items returned this week PLUS you can get ½ off your existing fines if paid in full. Bring your card to the front desk and ask our friendly circulation staff to check for you.

December @ the Library

BEYOND BASICS, for advanced beginners, will be offered Mondays, Oct. 11-Dec. 20 @ 1pm. This free, one-time class is for those already comfortable with mouse and keyboard, and who would like to find out what more they can do with their computer. The Library Scrabble Club meets every Monday, 3:00-5:30pm, no sign-up necessary. Boards are provided but you may bring your own if you’d like. Grab a Scrabble dictionary and a friend for lots of spelling fun with other Scrabble-rs.

Teen Night will be held on Friday, Dec. 10, sponsored by the Library, in cooperation with the Nye Communities Coalition and St. Martin's Episcopal Church. The theme is “Go Bananas for Books!” Sessions will be held: ages 2-3 on Wednesdays, 10:15-10:45am (parent or guardian must accompany child); ages 4-5 on Wednesdays, 11:00-11:45am; and ages 6-12 on Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30pm. This month’s Free Movie Day will not be held due to the holiday. Watch for more info next month.

Be sure to get your Sponsor Decoration and help decorate our Christmas tree. Only $1 each and all proceeds to benefit Kids’ Programming & Kids’ Books. Ask at the Main Circulation Desk.

Christmas Raffle tickets are available, $1 each or 6 for $5. The prize includes a Christmas afghan, tree skirt, and tablecloth handmade by our own Knit Wits, plus other goodies. Drawing will be held on Dec. 20; need not be present to win.

TUMBLEWEED TALES POETRY GROUP will meet here Saturday, November 1, at 10am, and every 1st Saturday! Join us at the library to share, listen, and enjoy poetry. Original poetry encouraged, or just read an old favorite! All ages welcome! And now the group also offers Shakespeare Made Simple! on the 3rd Saturday of each month at 10am and Shakespeare Reader’s Theatre on Tuesdays, 4-6pm. Free, for all ages.

The Library is sponsoring a Non-Perishable Food Drive, November 3-26. All proceeds will be distributed to local food banks and shelters. Bring new boxed and canned goods and help feed our community!

Get read for gift-giving: the Library is having a Salt City Candle Fundraiser, November 3-15! Just in time for the holidays. Order now! Test scents at our Candle Party on November 13, 1-3pm.

It’s time again for the PCL WINTER READING PROGRAM! October 15 thru December 17. This year’s theme: “Dino-Tails Reading!” Sign up now; free classes available for all ages. Tiny Dino’s (age 2 & 3; parent/guardian must accompany child) Wednesdays, 9:15-9:45am; T-Rex Tails (age 4-5) Wednesdays, 10-10:45am; Story-Osauraus (age 6-12) Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30pm; and Teens (5th grade & up) Thursdays, 3-4pm. Join us for a free, fun Adult Workshop on Thursday, November 20! We’ll make fun, seasonal Pilgrim Picture Holders. Free, fun & easy—and just in time for fall decorating! Adults only; kids 14 & up welcome with an adult.
