Events Calendar for April, 2010

April is Library Lover’s Month and the library is having a Fine Clearance Event to thank all their patrons. Any overdue item returned during April will have all fines removed, no matter the due date. Also, pay any old fine in full during April and you’ll receive 50% off. This is a great time to clear your card.

Free computer instruction is available @ the library. COMPUTER CLASSES for beginning-level computer users are offered Wednesdays at 1pm. Sign-ups available at the library (no sign-ups by phone). The GENEALOGY CLASS meets every Tuesday at 2pm. Genealogy guidance & help using Ancestry.com and HeritageQuest.com are provided. No sign-up is necessary.

The Library Scrabble Club meets every Monday, 3:30-5:30pm, no sign-up necessary. Boards are provided but you may bring your own if you’d like. Grab a Scrabble dictionary and a friend for lots of spelling fun with other Scrabble-rs.

Yoga For Kids is held every Saturday @ the library. Ages 4-5, 10:30-11am; ages 6-10, 11-11:40am. Enjoy the many health benefits of yoga: better concentration, better breath awareness, better relaxation, better flexibility…& more. Instructor: Linda Sampson (Cmt, CYT).

POWER ROCKERS! Teen Advisory Board meets Thursdays @ 3pm for brief meetings as needed. Anyone age 12-17 is welcome to join this group to help plan and organize programs for local teens. Bring your ideas and your friends. The Hangout (sponsored by Power Rockers!) is open every Thursday at 3pm. Anyone age 12-17 is welcome to bring snacks, music, homework, etc. and hang out with friends after school. April’s Teen Night will be held on Friday, April 30, 6-9pm and is open to anyone in Middle or High School. Free games, karaoke, Wii tournament, food, & fun. TCG (Trading Card Game) DUEL, for kids 11+, is held on Saturdays, 12-4:30. Meet others who love games such as Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, and Yu-Gi-Oh.

Shakespeare Roundtable meets to read, discuss, & enjoy Shakespeare every Tuesday, 4-5:30pm. In April, the play is “Love’s Labour’s Lost.” For more info, email ezshakespeare@yahoo.com.

The WINTER READING PROGRAM, “Day of the Children - Dia de los Ninos,” will end on Wednesday, April 28 (no sessions on April 7). Session times are: Ages 2-3 on Wednesdays @ 9:15-9:45am (parent or guardian must accompany child); Ages 4-5 on Wednesdays @ 10-10:45am; and Ages 6-12 on Wednesdays @ 3:30-4:30pm. For all who like to knit and/or crochet, the KNIT WITS meet every Wednesday, 1pm @ the library. Bring your current project and come join others who love yarn crafting. Free fun for all ages.

A fun and informative Adult Workshop will be held on Thursday, April 15 @ 1:00pm. This month, guest presenter Fred Davies will present “Using Local Medicinal Plants: 4 Specific, Prolific Ones & Many Bonus Herbs.” This workshop is free and open to adults only; kids 14 & up welcome with an adult. Please sign up at the library by Tuesday, April 13.

The Pahrump Anime Club will hold its regular meeting at the library Saturday, April 17, 12-4pm. Showings this month will be: TBA. Be sure to bring your raffle tickets! Absolutely no unaccompanied children under the age of 10.

The Favorite Authors Book Club will meet Tuesday, April 20, at 1:30pm. This month read anything by mystery author Lisa Gardner, then come enjoy a lively discussion. New members always welcome, so bring a friend. For more information, call the library.

This month’s Free Movie Day will be Saturday, April 24, 2pm. The feature title will be “The Tooth Fairy” (rated PG). Free family fun.

Author Judi Moreo will be welcomed @ the library on April 24, 10am-2pm. She will be signing her book “Life Choices: Navigating Difficult Paths,” an anthology of “messages of hope from 26 inspirational authors.”
