February @ the library <3

Everybody LOVES the library!

Free computer instruction is available @ the library! COMPUTER CLASSES for beginning-level computer users are offered Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Fridays. Sign-ups available at the library (no sign-ups by phone). Currently offering “Introduction to Computing,” “Beyond Basics,” “Internet & Email,” and “Genealogy”—check in the library for dates & times (or see previous post!).

TUMBLEWEED TALES POETRY GROUP will meet here Saturday, February 2, at 10am, and every 1st Saturday! Join us at the library to share, listen, and enjoy poetry. Original poetry encouraged, or just read an old favorite! All ages welcome!

Family Craft will be held Saturday, February 9. Bring the kids and enjoy some fun time together! 10-11am @ the library. This month we’ll make a free, fun Valentine Craft! Join Miss Brenda for holiday fun!

Pahrump Community Library is once again offering a Fine Amnesty on all overdue materials returned Feb. 11 thru 16. Time to check under those beds, behind the furniture, and in the car for library books, videos & CDs that may have been overlooked. Amnesty does NOT apply to fines already accrued.

Join us for a fun Adult Workshop on Thursday, February 21! We’ll make a Spring-time Ribbon Vase, the perfect decoration for Easter...or any time! The class is free and all materials will be provided! Please sign up in the library by February 19 (no sign-ups by phone). Adults only; kids 14 & up welcome with an adult.

The Pahrump Anime Club will hold its regular meeting at the library Saturday, January 19, 12-4pm. Showings this month will be:
12:00- Wolf’s Rain #22- 23 (English)
1:00- Petite Princess Yucie # 1- 2 (English)
2:00- Wanaba Style # 1 (Sub-Titled)
3:00- School Rumble # 2 (English)
3:30- Ranma 1/2 # (English).
There will also be an Inuyasha TCG Tournament so be sure to bring your cards! There will be prizes so be sure to enter. Absolutely no unaccompanied children under the age of 10.

WINTER READING PROGRAM continues Tuesdays & Wednesdays, beginning Feb. 5, 2008. This year’s theme is “Read with Clifford, the Big Red Dog!” No sign-up necessary. Classes are available for all ages.

This month’s Movie Day will be Saturday, February 23. We are having a “SHREK-A-THON!” All 3 Shrek movies will be shown, beginning at 12pm. All movies rated PG. Free family fun!

Free computer instruction @ the library!

BASIC COMPUTER*
Feb. 6, 13, 20, 27, Mar. 5, 12, 19, 26
This class will encompass the use of the mouse and keyboard. It will also cover the basic elements of the desktop and how to maneuver and do a simple search. *This is a required pre-requisite course.

BEYOND BASICS*
Feb. 4, 11, 25, Mar. 3, 10, 17, 24
This class will encompass a review of the use of the mouse and the keyboard functions; how to place and identify your cursor, drag and drop, cut and paste, and other basic skills. It also will cover the basic elements of the screen and how to maneuver from window to window and do a search. A mousing diploma will be issued to students who successfully complete that portion of the class. Students who do not already have an existing email will be assisted in obtaining an email address with Google. *This is a required pre-requisite course.

* Basic Computer & Beyond Basics are PRE-REQUISITE CLASSES. You must attend at least one of these classes to be eligible for any other computer classes. A Certificate of Completion will be issued to each student.

ADVANCED BASICS
Mar. 7, 14, 21, 28
An introduction to Microsoft Word and Excel; includes a brief overview of how to access these tools and a basic idea of their functions.

GENEALOGY
Feb. 5, 12, 19, 26, Mar. 4, 11, 18, 25
Since the attendees of this class will be working at their own level and pace, we will spend the first half hour of the class reviewing techniques and sources where information can be obtained toward the goal of completing family ancestry. Guest speakers will participate when available.

OVERVIEW & INTRO TO LIBRARY DATABASE & WEBSITE USAGE
Feb. 8, 15, 22, 29
Will present Library-provided databases and their many functions.

INTRO TO GOOGLE
Mar. 7, 14, 21, 28
An introduction to the search engine Google and its many facets.

To attend Library Computer Classes:
1. Sign up at the library;NO sign-ups by phone.
2. Sign up for ONE session of your desired classes. If there are extra seats available when a class commences, those who would like to repeat the class for practice are welcome. However, new attendees get first priority.
3. Be sure to attend all classes for which you are signed up. If you are unable to attend, please call the library as soon as possible so that your spot may be opened for someone else.
4. There is no charge for any of the classes. Donations are always welcome!

The Library will hold its annual WINTER OUTERWEAR CLOTHING DRIVE January 7 through 19th. Please bring in your clean, gently used coats, hats, scarves, and gloves to help warm the valley this winter! All items will be distributed in Pahrump by local organizations.

Join us for a fun, informative Adult Workshop! We will be learning all about Coin Collecting on Thursday, January 17, 1:30pm. Come join us for this fun and informative class. The class is free! Adults only; kids 14 & up welcome with an adult.
