Events Calendar for February, 2012

Free computer instruction is available @ the library. COMPUTER CLASSES for beginning-level computer users are offered Wednesdays at 1pm. Sign-ups available at the library (no sign-ups by phone). The GENEALOGY CLASS meets every Tuesday at 2pm. Genealogy guidance & help using Ancestry.com and HeritageQuest.com are provided. No sign-up is necessary. Please call library prior to attending to confirm class time.
Tumbleweed Tales Poetry group will meet Saturday, February 4, @ 10am. All ages welcome, bring original poetry or old favorites to share.
Time to turn in your overdue materials! A Fine Amnesty for our patrons will be held February 6-11. NO fines on overdue items returned this week PLUS you can get ½ off your existing fines if paid in full. Bring your card to the front desk and ask our friendly circulation staff to check for you.
Winter Reading Program will be held Feb. 8 – Mar. 28. The theme is “Bee-a-Reader!” Sessions will be held: ages 2-3 on Wednesdays, 10:15-10:45am (parent or guardian must accompany child); ages 4-5 on Wednesdays, 11:00-11:45am; and ages 6-12 on Wednesdays, 3:00-4:00pm. The Pahrump Anime Club will hold its regular meeting at the library Saturday, February 18, 1-4pm. Absolutely no unaccompanied children under the age of 10.
The Favorite Author Book Club will meet on Tuesday, February 21, 1:30-2:30pm. This month read anything from our Romance collection then come enjoy a lively discussion. New members are always welcome so bring a friend.
Calling all artists 0-18 years old! Our annual Youth Art Month will commence in March and we want to display your art. Bring your work, any medium, to the library beginning February 27 and we’ll display it for you. Make sure to include name and age on front and telephone number on back. Halloween Decorations will be available for purchase in mid-October. All proceeds go to the Library.

The Kick-Off Activity, for all ages, will be held Tuesday, June 14, as we welcome storyteller Jim Cogan. Regular sessions will commence on Tuesday, June 21, and continue as follows: ages 4-5 on Wednesdays, 10:00-11:00am; ages 6-11 on Tuesdays, 1:00-2:15pm OR Wednesdays, 11:15am-12:30pm; ages 5th grade & up on Tuesdays, 2:30-3:30pm. BEYOND BASICS, for advanced beginners, will be offered Mondays, Oct. 11-Dec. 20 @ 1pm. This free, one-time class is for those already comfortable with mouse and keyboard, and who would like to find out what more they can do with their computer. Sign-ups available at the library (no sign-ups by phone). The GENEALOGY CLASS meets every Tuesday at 2pm. Genealogy guidance & help using Ancestry.com and HeritageQuest.com are provided. The Library Scrabble Club meets every Monday, 3:00-5:30pm, no sign-up necessary. Boards are provided but you may bring your own if you’d like. Grab a Scrabble dictionary and a friend for lots of spelling fun with other Scrabble-rs.

Christmas Raffle tickets are available, $1 each or 6 for $5. The prize includes a Christmas afghan, tree skirt, and tablecloth handmade by our own Knit Wits, plus other goodies. Drawing will be held on Dec. 20; need not be present to win.

TUMBLEWEED TALES POETRY GROUP will meet here Saturday, November 1, at 10am, and every 1st Saturday! Join us at the library to share, listen, and enjoy poetry. And now the group also offers Shakespeare Made Simple! on the 3rd Saturday of each month at 10am and Shakespeare Reader’s Theatre on Tuesdays, 4-6pm. Free, for all ages.

The Library is sponsoring a Non-Perishable Food Drive, November 3-26. All proceeds will be distributed to local food banks and shelters. Bring new boxed and canned goods and help feed our community!

Get read for gift-giving: the Library is having a Salt City Candle Fundraiser, November 3-15! Just in time for the holidays. Order now! Test scents at our Candle Party on November 13, 1-3pm.

Join us for a fun Adult Workshop on Thursday, February 21! We’ll make a Spring-time Ribbon Vase, the perfect decoration for Easter...or any time! The class is free and all materials will be provided! March is YOUTH ART MONTH in the library and we will be displaying works by young local talent. Come to the library for this wonderful chance to see what artistic and talented young people we have in Pahrump! Display available through March.

The PCL POETRY GROUP is here! Saturday, Mar. 3, at 10am, and every 1st Saturday thru June, meet at the library to share, listen, and enjoy poetry. Original poetry encouraged, or just read an old favorite! All ages welcome!

Family Day will be held Saturday, Mar. 10. Bring the kids and enjoy some fun time together! 10-11am @ the library. Make a cute Shamrock Magnet this month! Join Miss Brenda for fun @ the library!

Kids’ Winter Reading Program continues thru April 3! Hop into Reading with Froggy & His Friends! Thru Apr. 3. Ages 2-3, Tuesdays 9:15-9:45am; ages 4-5, Tuesdays 10:00-10:45am; ages 6-10, Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30pm; teens, Wednesdays, 3-4pm. No sign-ups necessary.

A Non-Fiction Book Sale will be held @ the library, Mar. 5 thru 7. Our surplus is your gain and lots of titles and subjects will be available, with nothing priced over $1.00! Who knows what you may find?

YAA-HOOS! We had a great time in February gettin’ a little weepy with a romantic movie for Valentines Day! This month come by on Mar. 14 and learn to play Bunco, the popular game that’s so much fun! No pressure, and prizes awarded, too! Yaa-Hoos is a group for ladies of all ages who would just like a little time to themselves! Come to the library for fun, who knows what we might be doing?! And free, too! 2nd Wednesdays of each month, 11am-1pm.

The Adult Workshop is held the 3rd Thursday of every month, October thru June. This month: GREETING CARDS! Join us on Mar. 15 @ 1:30pm for this fun & easy craft. All materials provide; this will be a FREE class. Please sign up in the library
