Events Calendar for October, 2009

Free computer instruction is available @ the library! COMPUTER CLASSES for beginning-level computer users are offered Wednesdays at 1pm. Sign-ups available at the library (no sign-ups by phone).

Tumbleweed Tales Society meets 1st Saturdays of each month, 10a.m.-noon. Next roundtable will be held Oct. 3. Bring original work or a favorite author to share. Open to all ages! For more info, email tumbleweedtales@yahoo.com.

It’s time again for FINE AMNESTY, October 5-10. Fines will be dismissed on all overdue items returned during this time, no questions asked. Amnesty does NOT apply to fines already accumulated.

Shakespeare at Library! Read, discuss, enjoy Shakespeare every 3rd Saturday of the month, 9:30-11:30 a.m. The current reading is "Merchant of Venice." Next gathering: October 17. Also, enjoy Shakespeare Reader’s Theatre every Tuesday, 4-5:30 p.m. Our current reading is "Much Ado About Nothing." For more info, email ezshakespeare@yahoo.com.

The Library is pleased to welcome Lesley Dening to a BOOK SIGNING on October 10 @ 11am! Ms. Dening will be signing copies of her book, “Struggling Within.” The Pahrump Roasters will also be on hand, hosting a Coffee Tasting!

It’s time again for the FALL READING PROGRAM! This year’s theme is “Catch a Good Book!” and it will start on Wedneday, Oct. 14 and run through Wednesday, Dec. 16. Classes are: Ages 2-3 on Wednesdays @9:15-9:45am (parent of guardian must accompany child); Ages 4-5 on Wednesdays @ 10-10:45am; Ages 6-12 on Wednesdays @ 3:30-4:30pm; and Teens on Thursdays @ 3-4pm. Free Fall fun @ the library! Teen Zone also continues, meeting on October 10 & 17 @ 2pm.

We’re starting a new group, just for all who like to knit and/or crochet! The KNIT WITS will meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month, starting October 14, 1pm @ the library. Free and fun, bring your current project and come join others who love yarn crafting!

Join us for a free, fun Adult Workshop on Thursday, October 15 @ 1:00pm! Join us this month as we learn all about Pumpkin Carving! Supplies will be provided. Adults only; kids 14 & up welcome with an adult.

The Pahrump Anime Club will hold its regular meeting at the library Saturday, October 17, 12-4pm. Showings this month will be: TBA. Absolutely no unaccompanied children under the age of 10.

Can-for-a-Costume begins Monday, October 19 and will continue through October 29. Exchange one new can of food for a Halloween Costume. All food will be donated to local food banks. Get ready for Halloween and help feed our valley!

Our Favorite Authors Bookclub will meet Tuesday, October 20, at 1:30pm. This month’s author is Kay Hooper. Read anything by Ms. Hooper, then come enjoy a lively discussion! New members always welcome, so bring a friend! For more information, call the library.

This month’s Movie Day will be Saturday, October 24, 2pm. Feature title: “Monsters vs Aliens” Rated PG. Free family fun!

New this year: The Haunted Library! Thursday, October 29, 7-8:30pm. For kids age 6-14, come in costume and tour the scariest library in Pahrump! Free fun which COULD be frightening. Sign-up beginning October 16, required as space is limited. And don’t forget to Trick-or-Treat at the Library on Saturday, October 31. Come in costume for a sweet treat!
